ISO 900118 July 2026
Quality management publication planning with process charts and documents

What happened?

ISO's ISO 9001 project page now shows the sixth edition at the International Standard under publication stage. The lifecycle record shows movement to stage 60.00 on 10 July 2026, after the FDIS voting process closed.

Why it matters

This is a stronger signal than an early draft. The revised quality management system standard is moving through final production steps and is expected to replace ISO 9001:2015. Organisations certified to ISO 9001:2015 should begin practical transition planning, while waiting for the final published text and accreditation transition rules.

Practical checks

  • Keep ISO 9001:2015 compliance stable until the final 2026 edition is published.
  • Identify process owners who will need to review context, risk, opportunities, performance, and improvement evidence.
  • Plan a gap assessment only after the final published standard and transition guidance are available.
  • Use the waiting period to clean up weak corrective actions, obsolete procedures, and unused KPIs.

For most organisations, the best preparation is not a rushed rewrite. It is a disciplined review of how the QMS actually performs today, so the eventual transition becomes a controlled improvement project.
